Dinesh Nair

Dinesh Nair

a computer scientist by profession and currently chief technology officer of a malaysian telemedicine network operator, i have had an involvement with the internet which stretches back 10 years and continue to play a strong role in internet governance issues in my home nation, malaysia.

i believe that the asian involvement in global internet governance is very muted, in spite of many predictions that the largest number of internet users will come from this region.

as an owner of 2 second-level domain names, none of which are used commercially, i've always held that the unit of measure for internet identity should be a domain name and not an email address as is the lowest common denominator right now. this fits in well with current thinking that the internet will be ubiqutious within the decade.

ICANN's current stand of not accepting an individual domain owner's constituency is quite narrow-minded as this constituency has the potential of being the largest of all the constituencies currently in the DNSO.

in addition, i maintain and operate 5 other third level domains under the .my namespace (.my has a fixed second level namespace) for various commercial and non-commercial organizations and have provided expert opinion to clients on issues ranging from DNS technology, architecture and marketing.

reach me at dinesh@alphaque.com if you need a clearer picture of what i am.

ANDY Gardner

Bio for Andy Gardner written 8 Feb 2000 (required for election of new IDNO
List Chairman).

I am a New Zealand citizen, born in 1964, and currently living in Mexico.
My entire life has evolved around technology. My interest in the Internet
began in the very early 90's, moving to it from running and using BBS's.

[Election speech]

Getting straight to the point, the Internet is going through a major change
right now, and the way things are developing, the "little guy" is losing
the benefits the Internet originally offered - the ability to communicate
to whoemever they felt like communicating with, without a government or
corporation controlling or manipulating their actions.

Disputes are raging RIGHT NOW, where individual domain name owners NEED the
assistance of their fellow Internet users. Right now, they'd be better off
posting a plea on slashdot than approching the IDNO. Like a Navy ship
running Windows NT, the IDNO is currently dead in the water with nothing
but blue screens everywhere. To become effective, we need to very quickly
re-format some hard drives and install Linux. Figuratively speaking.

We need to act now, and if voted on as Chairman, I will do my utmost to see
the IDNO make progress and thus get a voice for the Individual in the
Domain Name Attrocities.

I have been a member of the IDNO right from the early days, paid the first
2 years for the idno.org domain name, and attended the Santiago meeting (at
my own expense) providing support to the IDNO spokesman and the many IDNO
members participating remotely. I am one of the few IDNO members to have
seen ICANN in operation "up close and personal", and feel this puts me in a
good position to help the IDNO achieve its objectives.
